Seventeen-year-old Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Amélie Farren continues her rapid ascent with the release of her debut album Airheaded and its haunting lead single, ‘Ocean Sounds’. The release arrives alongside the announcement of headline shows at Les Étoiles in Paris on 27 February and The Grace in London on 2 March, as well as a run of UK and EU support dates with multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning artist Cam throughout February. Following her spellbinding performances at The Great Escape and Oberkampf in 2025, Farren enters Europe at a defining moment, armed with a debut record already drawing widespread critical and audience acclaim.
Farren’s story is one of precocious craft and quiet conviction. A former member of the Sydney Children’s Choir, she began writing songs at just 12, later finding a devoted global audience through stark, minimalist performance clips online, marked by the now-signature two blue dots beneath her eyes. Her music occupies a liminal space between alt-folk and alt-pop, pairing poetic intimacy with cinematic restraint, and has resonated far beyond Australia. Early single ‘suffering’ has surpassed 15 million streams, while breakout track ‘Unsweetened Lemonade’ has accumulated over 60 million worldwide. Along the way, Farren has earned support from triple j, triple j unearthed, and praise for a songwriting voice that feels both diaristic and universally affecting.
At the centre of Airheaded sits ‘Ocean Sounds’, a nocturnal, folk-leaning alt-pop track that serves as both entry point and emotional thesis for the album, with twinkling pads and hypnotic vocal hooks that draw the listener in. Written entirely by Farren and recorded and produced by Michael Keenan (G-Eazy, Bebe Rexha, Melanie Martinez) in Los Angeles, the record unfolds like a novella, tracing obsession, vulnerability, and the fragile dynamics of intimacy. ‘Ocean Sounds’ holds motifs that echo throughout the album; its hushed intensity and oceanic imagery setting the tone for a body of work built for late nights and quiet fixation. As Farren takes Airheaded on the road across Europe, her understated yet emotionally exacting sound feels newly urgent, and increasingly impossible to ignore.
