What drew you to producing electronic music?
I have always been passionate about music, especially electronic music, but I spent a big part of my life as an athlete. I actually entered a club for the first time quite late, at 19, because I wasn’t allowed to go out much back then. That’s when I definitely fell in love with electronic music. I still remember that shortly after, for my birthday, a friend gave me a cracked version of FL Studio, and that’s how it all started.
When you compose and produce tracks, do you make music for yourself or do you make it with others in mind?
When I produce, I obviously create something I personally enjoy, but I always keep in mind the goal of playing it during a DJ set, imagining how people will react. I think this is crucial because my music primarily originates from the club scene.
Do you have any routines or rituals when preparing for a performance?
I don’t have any specific rituals before a performance, but I definitely focus on preparing my music as best as I can. I try to understand the type of venue, the atmosphere, and the crowd I’ll be performing for. I visualize the setting and go through my tracks, sometimes preparing special edits tailored to the situation. That said, I usually can’t eat much before a performance because I feel a bit of tension—lol!
How do you keep your sets fresh and unique, especially when you’re performing often?
Most of the time, my sets are unique because I play the music I produce. I constantly try to incorporate new tracks as I create them. Of course, I also stay up to date with the latest releases, including tracks that fellow DJs are kind enough to share with me. I always try to figure out what works best for my set in the moment.
Your single ‘Everything You Have Done’ (MEDUZA edit) has reached over 66 million Spotify streams. How does it feel to accomplish something like this?
Those are numbers you’d never expect for your music, especially when it’s club music. When I produce, I never focus on the numbers; I just think about the possible reaction on the dancefloor. I have to say, with ‘Everything You Have Done’, we’re really happy with how it turned out. Plus, for some reason, it’s also doing well on Spotify, which is probably because it manages to convey energy even outside the club. I couldn’t be happier about that!
Which piece of hardware or software would you consider the most essential in your setup, and that you would be a little lost without?
It seems that nowadays the only essential piece of hardware for producing has become the computer—whether that’s a good or bad thing, who knows. But it’s definitely convenient because it allows you to work even while traveling. As for software, I wouldn’t know what to do without my FL Studio!
What would be your dream collaboration?
My favorite artists in the scene are Solomun and Eric Prydz, and I think it’s practically impossible to collaborate with them since they pretty much don’t do collaborations—haha. But that’s fine; it’s like a platonic love! Of course, there are many other artists I deeply admire, some I’d love to collaborate with and some I’ve already had the chance to work with. Let’s see what the future holds!
What have you got in the pipeline for the near future?
I’m excited to announce my next release on Aeterna Records this January—a collaboration with Carl Bee and Miss Monique. It’s a track I’ve been playing in all my DJ sets, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. After that, I’ll be releasing an EP with my brothers, Meduza, on Diynamic, Solomun’s label. I’m very proud of this one because, as I mentioned earlier, Solomun is one of my favorite artists, and it’s truly an honor to release music on his label!
