underscores has officially released her long-teased new single, ‘Unlimited Love,’ marking her first new music since her acclaimed third album, U. The track arrives August 28, via Mom+Pop alongside a Frost Children remix of the U track ‘The Peace.’
The release has been a long time coming for underscores fans. The artist, real name April Harper Grey, began performing ‘Unlimited Love’ during her GALLERIA tour earlier this year, with the song becoming a recurring part of her live sets before its official release. It was first performed in May and had appeared in roughly 20 of her shows by the end of July.
Musically, ‘Unlimited Love’ extends the restless electronic-pop world established on U, which was released in March. The new track is entirely self-produced, written, mixed and mastered by underscores, continuing her approach of combining hyperpop’s maximalism with elements of dubstep, future bass, guitar and experimental pop. The track also appears to incorporate a guitar passage from her earlier song ‘Do It.’
The single arrives with a second version of ‘The Peace,’ reworked by New York electronic duo Frost Children. Its artwork also appears to tease after-U, potentially hinting at a larger project or remix release expanding on the world of U.
The release comes at a particularly busy point in underscores’ rise. Following a sold-out North American GALLERIA tour, she is set to join Charli xcx as support for the latter’s upcoming North American arena run before taking GALLERIA to Europe and the UK later this year.
