American DJ and producer Maceo Plex makes his debut on Radio Slave’s Rekids with Monster, a three-track EP released on 28 August 2026.
Active since the 1990s, Maceo Plex has spent three decades developing a distinctive sound that brings together electro, techno and house. Alongside his work as a producer and DJ, he has played a major role in the underground through his Lone Romantic and Ellum Audio labels. Earlier this year, he released The Plan EP through Ellum Audio, which also featured Baby Monsta.
The release sees Plex explore the intersection of electro, techno, house and breakbeat, opening with ‘Flute Jam’. Driven by broken beats, muscular bass and widescreen synths, the track builds a futuristic, progressive atmosphere around subtle chords and drifting vocals.
The EP’s title track, ‘Baby Monster’, features vocals from Baby Monsta and pushes further into electro-techno territory. Fizzing basslines and futuristic sound design give the production an otherworldly quality, while the vocal performance adds another layer to its dark, cinematic character.
Closing the release, ‘Cold Flow’ takes a more fractured approach, combining prickly breakbeats with dehumanised, trap-influenced vocals. Across its three tracks, Monster finds Maceo Plex continuing to blur the boundaries between electronic styles while retaining the melancholic and atmospheric qualities that have defined much of his work.
Monster marks his first release on Rekids, the label founded by Radio Slave in 2006. The label has continued to champion established and emerging artists across house and techno, expanding with Rekids Special Projects in 2017 and REK’D in 2024.
