Gorillaz Celebrate 25 Years with House of Kong Exhibition

Never a band to simply drop a ‘greatest hits’ compilation and disappear, Gorillaz are celebrating their 25th anniversary with something far stranger: a full-blown immersive exhibition in London, and four rare live shows to match. Dubbed House of Kong, the event opens its animated gates on August 8th at the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, running until September 3rd.

Far from a dusty retrospective, House of Kong promises a deep dive into the surreal and subversive world of Murdoc, 2D, Russel, and Noodle, the four virtual antiheroes who’ve fronted the band since 2000’s Tomorrow Comes Today first bent the rules of what a band could be.

And, true to form, Gorillaz aren’t stopping at static displays. Alongside the exhibition, the group will perform four “celebratory one-off live shows” inside the venue itself—on August 29, August 30, September 2, and September 3. Expect the unexpected. And yes, expect them to sell out.

“This summer, the gates of Kong will swing open for the very first time,” the band announced via Instagram last week, inviting fans to enter the chaos, the innovation, the lore.

More theatrical resurrection than mere nostalgia trip, House of Kong looks set to reaffirm what Gorillaz have been doing all along – redefining what music looks like, and who gets to make it.
