Pet Shop Boys have announced a new album exploring the life and legacy of Alan Turing. Titled A Man From The Future, the eight-track work was created in collaboration with Turing biographer Professor Andrew Hodges and will arrive on October 9, 2026 via Parlophone Records.

Blending electronic music, spoken word, and orchestral arrangements, the eight-chapter album traces Turing’s life. Narrated by Juliet Stevenson using excerpts from Andrew HodgesAlan Turing: The Enigma, it features Sven Helbig’s string arrangements with the Manchester Camerata Octet and the Manchester Grammar School choir. It covers Turing’s early scientific interests, Cambridge studies, Bletchley Park codebreaking, AI and computing contributions, and prosecution for homosexuality.

The work concludes with Turing’s 1954 death, his legacy, and the injustice of his treatment as a tribute to the computing visionary. Composed by Neil Tennant, Chris Lowe, and Hodges between 2012 and 2013, ‘A Man From The Future‘ premiered at the BBC Proms in July 2014 with the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Singers, and Stevenson’s narration. Over a decade later, Pet Shop Boys have reworked the piece to feature electronic elements and Helbig’s intimate string arrangement instead of full orchestral backing.

Revisiting Alan Turing’s story carries personal and political weight for Tennant and Lowe as a memorial to his legacy and unjust prosecution. The album continues Pet Shop Boys’ exploration of identity, technology, and social themes, growing more relevant as AI evolves.

Before the release, the BBC will broadcast the 2026 recording on October 4 via BBC Radio 6 Music’s Freak Zone with Stuart Maconie and BBC Radio 3’s Unclassified, featuring conversations with the duo and Hodges. On October 8, the day before the launch, Pet Shop Boys and Hodges will hold an album playback and Q&A at Manchester’s Imperial War Museum North.
