Set the tone for us. Why the arts?
We started playing instruments at a very young age – Emil (Guitar) and Pierro (Piano).

Pierro: My father and a friend used to make music at home with Cubase. As a little boy, I wanted to know what they were doing, and they said they were making music with a programme. I was hooked and started making music on the computer daily at around 13. It’s simple: we do it because it’s fun and always dreamed of making music successfully.

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
It’s always different. Sometimes Emil or I have a chord idea on the guitar. Other times, we listen to sounds, and ideas come from there.

Does your material feature any collaborations?
Yes, we’ve collaborated with many artists. We’ve done remixes for the Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Imagine Dragons, Jessie J, and Rammstein, to name a few.

What’s on your current playlist?
I’m listening to Limp Bizkit again, the album Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavoured Water.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
We have great chemistry, especially when we sing with our voices. The audience’s eyes light up.

What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?
I try out new VSTs and plug-ins and see what they sound like. You have to experiment a lot.

Take us through a day in the recording studio.
Our joint calendar tells us what needs to be done that day. I try to be in the studio by 11:00 and work until 19:00/20:00, so I still have time for the gym.

Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?
When I watched my father and his friend making music.

What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?
Our tour manager informs us if a set needs to be played longer or shorter.

Any emerging artists on your radar?
No, not at the moment.

What gets your creative juices flowing?
Listening to a lot of music and watching movies.

Take us through your collection of gear, tech, or software that accompanies your creative expression.
We don’t have much outdoor equipment; most is on our laptop so we can work anywhere.

Any side projects you’re working on?
We have the club tracks from our side project TC/TC, which is special because we experiment a lot. It’s Berlin house music, the genre we grew up with.

How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?
Pierro: I’ve gotten much better at mixing and mastering. I’ve really focused on it in the last few years. I’ve also improved my piano playing and trained my musical ear.

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?
We’ve just released our new single UMS’ —it’s worth a listen. We’re going on tour at the end of the year and playing festivals. Expect lots of remixes and singles with Safri Duo.

Famous last words?
We’d like to thank everyone who listens to our music because we couldn’t do it without you. And if you want to see us live, come to our twocolors tour in November.
