Shackleton emerged from London’s underground in the mid-2000s, quickly gaining recognition for his shadowy, rhythm-driven soundscapes. On Euphoria Bound, the UK producer’s debut for AD 93, every track is a portal. ‘The Unbeliever’s Pulse’ takes two-step and flings it into a misty ether, while ‘When Memory Ceases’ hints at early Krautrock sensibilities through the lens of jazzy keys. ‘Contagious Illusion’, perhaps the most antithetical track to the album’s alluring title, is an abrasively unnerving journey: dub techno chords shimmer, eerie piano drifts like fog, spooky choral motifs float through the fray, and ritualistic organic drums pulse with merciless intent.
