Samsung Denies “Intentional Misuse” in $15M Dua Lipa Lawsuit

Samsung has responded to Dua Lipa’s copyright infringement lawsuit by denying any allegations of intentional misuse. This response addresses the $15 million complaint made by the British singer in recent weeks.

Samsung denied allegations of intentional misuse, explaining that a content partner provided “explicit assurance” that the 2024 festival photo had been properly cleared. The company stated the image was used to illustrate third-party content on Samsung TV Plus only after receiving these guarantees, including for retail packaging.

“Samsung has great respect for Ms. Lipa and the intellectual property of all artists. We have actively sought and remain open to a constructive resolution with Ms. Lipa’s team,” the company concluded.

While Samsung denies any intentional misuse, the television box design features an “XITE Hits” logo alongside the photo. XITE, an Amsterdam and New York-based music video service, has not yet commented on the matter. The use of a festival photo to promote a music video app raises further questions about the image’s authorized use.
