Plain Mister Smith has just dropped his sparkling new single ‘Miss Sunshine’, out now via Amelia Records/Symphonic. Marking the first in a run of upcoming releases, the track paves the way for his highly anticipated album set to land in 2026.
A former guitarist for Canadian darkwave outfit Moev and a current cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vancouver-and-London-based artist is a genre-bending force. Under the Plain Mister Smith alias, he’s carved a niche with his eclectic blend of indie-folk charm and offbeat lyricism, earning praise from the likes of CLASH Magazine, NOTION, Under the Radar, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis Mag, and Atwood Magazine.
‘Miss Sunshine’ is a heartfelt ode to someone caught in the orbit of mistreatment, balancing light, jangly melodies with a core of emotional sincerity. Featuring John Raham on drums and mixed by Chris Perry, the track’s breezy guitar hooks and steady rhythm section cradle Smith’s earnest vocals with warmth and clarity. It’s a bittersweet, melodic gem tailor-made for fans of Pixies, Tame Impala, Death Cab for Cutie, and even a touch of The Beatles.
Plain Mister Smith told us: “If you’ve ever worked with the loveliest person in the world and found them mercilessly taken advantage of by fellow workers, then you’ll know a “Miss Sunshine”, or you may even have a crush on her.”
