Dick Parry, the saxophonist renowned for his contributions to Pink Floyd classics such as ‘Money’ and ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond,’ has passed away at the age of 83. The news was confirmed by David Gilmour on Friday, May 22nd, through an emotional tribute shared on Instagram.
“My dear friend Dick Parry died this morning,” Gilmour wrote, reflecting on their decades-long friendship and musical partnership. He also celebrated Parry’s unique tone and the significant role his performances played in shaping Pink Floyd’s catalogue.
Born in Kentford, Suffolk, in 1942, Parry enjoyed a career that spanned rock, jazz, and blues. In addition to his work with Pink Floyd on albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Division Bell, he collaborated with artists like Rory Gallagher, John Entwistle, and Lightnin’ Slim.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
