London clubbing institution Ministry of Sound has unveiled Boxed In, a new live-streamed DJ competition that will award one emerging artist an official residency at the legendary venue alongside a prize package worth £25,000. The event aims to spotlight the next generation of DJ talent through a series of performance-based challenges.
Taking place on 13 September in the club’s recently renovated main room, The Box, the 12-hour competition will be broadcast live on Twitch. Six finalists will compete in challenges testing their mixing ability, crowd engagement, booth etiquette and musical knowledge, with the winner determined through live audience voting.
Each contestant will be mentored by an established figure from the electronic music scene, with Fish56Octagon, Sam Divine, G33 (Girls Don’t Sync), Mak10, Jakkob, and Sian Owen selecting and coaching one DJ each. In addition to securing a Ministry of Sound residency, the winning artist will receive studio time, DJ equipment and artist development support as part of the prize package.
Applications are open globally to DJs aged 18 and over until 16 August. Entrants must submit a 60-second video explaining why they should be selected alongside a 15-minute DJ mix uploaded to SoundCloud. Thirty applicants will be shortlisted before the mentors choose their finalists for the live competition.
