Jack White’s latest solo project, Lazaretto, has scored the biggest single-week vinyl sales and been the fastest pressed & released record. Now White’s scored a hatrick and broke the record for biggest selling LP of any year!
Billboard has reported that Lazaretto has broken the previous record (held by Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy in 1994) shifting a staggering 60,000 copies to date, wiping the floor with 2013’s highest seller, Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memory,” which sold 49,000 copies. The “Ultra” edition of Lazaretto sold 40,00 copies alone in its first week of release.
Lazaretto was released June 10th 2014 through White’s own label, Third Man Records and was inspired by a collection of short stories and poems written by White as a 19 year old that he unearthed in his attic. The “Ultra” edition featured hidden songs (pressed under the inner label), Side A played from the inside out, track “Just One Drink” had two intros (depending on where the needle dropped) and holographic images materialised when the record spun.
Through breaking a record spanning two decades Jack White has firmly cemented his place in Rock ‘n’ Roll royalty.
