Juno Download, a cornerstone of the electronic music industry, has officially ceased operations after two decades. The platform, known for being a vital resource for DJs and collectors worldwide, announced its closure on its website, marking the end of an era for one of the primary digital storefronts in the dance music space.
In a statement released on its website, the company expressed gratitude to its community: “It has been our privilege to share some of the most incredible music from amazing artists, but we are sorry to say that the time has come to say goodbye.” Along with the shutdown, the platform’s Instagram account has been deactivated.
Launched in 2006 as the digital arm of the renowned physical retailer Juno Records, Juno Download rose to prominence during the height of the download boom. Its success led to its acquisition by a U.S.-based firm in 2013. However, representatives indicated that the decision to close was driven by a fundamental shift in the industry landscape. The rise of subscription-based streaming models and the popularity of direct-to-fan platforms like Bandcamp have significantly transformed how music is consumed and purchased.
Although the storefront is no longer active for new sales, Juno Download has confirmed that existing customers can still log into their accounts to retrieve and download their previous purchases. For those seeking new releases, the platform is redirecting its user base to alternative digital webstores, specifically recommending Beatport and Traxsource.
