Detroit veteran Carl Craig has announced that he plans to hit up selected cities with a new event concept, Detroit Love, and to release an album of the same name.
Last month Amsterdam played host to a new club series called Detroit Love, pulling together the likes of Mike Banks, Moodymann and Recloose for an evening of Motor City-focused partying. Now Carl Craig plans to export the project to a range of locations across the world, with curated gigs confirmed for Tokyo, Miami and Paris, amongst other locations. Craig’s performances will feature “a new technical set up with 4-CD deck mixing, looping, live editing and sampling,” as well as visuals that depict Detroit’s surreal urban landscape.
First destination will be a Red Bull Music Academy event at Tokyo’s Liquid Room where Robert Hood AKA Floorplan will support. Craig will then swing by Miami’s Trade, during Art Basel, to pull an all-nighter back to back session with Matthew Dear, followed up the next night by a party at Brooklyn’s Verboten. The Detroit Love will spread into 2015 with a set at Bloc’s mighty return in March, a return to Trade for Miami Music Week and Nuits Sonores in Lyon. Confirmed dates are below, more to be added later.
Announcements of a new album, also called Detroit Love, have been revealed however details are non-existent at the moment. It’s not known whether it will be a showcase for his new set-up or something completely different.
