Paint us a picture – what sparked your passion for the arts in the first place. Was there a single moment or experience that solidified your decision to pursue this path?
I tried a bit of everything growing up. Dance, art, piano, guitar, all of it. But the second I started singing, I was like, okay yeah, this is it. Nothing else came close.
When you create what leads the way – a feeling, a story, or the sound itself?
It depends on the track, but usually it’s a feeling first. I’ll hear a melody or a beat and it just gives me something. Then I build around that. I’m not usually sitting down like I’m going to write about X. It’s more like the sound tells me what it wants to say.
What’s in your toolkit? Share the gear gadgets or software you can’t create without
I keep it pretty simple honestly. I go into the studio with my producer, he’s on Logic, and we just build from there. I come in with ideas, melodies, lyrics, a vibe I’m going for and we figure it out together. I don’t get too caught up in the technical side. I’d rather focus on the creative and let the process flow.
What’s your go to ritual or trick for getting into the creative zone?
I don’t really have one to be honest. Some days it flows, some days it doesn’t. I’ve learned not to force it. If it’s not coming, I step away. The best stuff usually happens when I’m not trying too hard.
What’s the one item you always keep within arm’s reach while creating or performing?
Probably just my phone and some water or tea. I’m pretty low maintenance in the studio.
How did you ultimately end up defining your sound?
I stopped overthinking it. I just kept making what felt good, and eventually it clicked. Like okay, this is my sound.
How has your creative process or perspective shifted since you started your journey?
I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to get everything perfect. Now I just let it happen. Some sessions are amazing, some aren’t, and that’s fine. I’ve gotten way more comfortable with the process being messy sometimes.
Walk us through a recording session. What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in the studio?
Honestly, the late nights. When we’re in the studio until like 4am just creating, being goofy, dancing around. Those are the ones I remember most. It doesn’t even feel like work at that point.
Are there any unexpected or dream collaborations hidden in your work?
No hidden features yet. I’ve been pretty focused on finding my own sound first before bringing other people into it. But I’ve got a few dream collabs in my head for when the time is right.
Any side projects you’re working on?
Yeah, OŽN is a new project I’m working on with my producer Steve. It’s electronic, chill melodic house, drum and bass, UK garage, kind of all over but with a vibe that ties it together. We’ve had our first release get picked up by SiriusXM Chill which has been really cool. Still early days but we’re excited about where it’s heading.
Who’s an emerging artist you think deserves more recognition right now?
Honestly there’s so many. I’m always finding new artists online. SoundCloud, Spotify, wherever. So much talent out there that doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
What’s the strangest or most surprising song currently on your playlist?
I have some random stuff on there honestly. My playlists are all over the place. I don’t just listen to one thing. You’d probably find some stuff that doesn’t match the vibe at all.
Which song album or playlist do you never get sick of no matter how many times you listen to it?
I don’t know about albums or playlists but I never get sick of the stuff I grew up on. Early 90s, early 2000s, that era just hits different. Those are the songs that shaped me, so no matter how many times I hear them, they still feel good.
Are there any unexpected hobbies or projects you’re exploring outside of your main work?
I’m at the gym a lot, and I love to travel whenever I can. That’s pretty much it. Keeping it simple.
Give us a glimpse into the future – what surprises or milestones are coming up for you this year?
A lot actually. Music isn’t slowing down. I’ve got more releases coming with OŽN and I’m excited to see where this year takes it. Just gonna keep building.
Famous last words?
Half sweet please.
