International wave scene pioneer Øfdream passed away suddenly in 2018, but his legacy and impact remain as poignant as ever. The French producer’s death sent shockwaves throughout the globe, with many citing Théo’s music as profoundly life-altering, and a catalyst which helped them through incredibly trying moments.
Music is about connection, and more often than not our ability to resonate with an artist’s emotional landscape is what draws us to them. Ultimately, this is what defines a great artist, not followers, likes or streams, and Øfdream’s ability to evoke emotions while immersing the listener into his distinct, nuanced and multi-dimensional universe is irrevocably unmatched.
One of the greatest ironies of the wave scene is that it emerged and grew on virtual platforms in the 2010s, and despite this, their community is one of the most interconnected and supportive online communities. For many, Øfdream’s music was a refuge from the heaviness of life and their personal struggles.
Before landing onto the new wave scene, Øfdream forayed in progressive house and hip hop. His sound then began to mold into melodious trap and dark electronica which led to his discovery of wave music. In his short, but powerful career Øfdream performed at Electric Brixton where he shared the stage with the likes of Vitalic, Com Truise and Lorn. His tracks ‘Perception’ and ‘Thelema’ currently have over 20 million cumulative views on YouTube, and are renowned as timeless classics.
His Anthology Pt. 1 EP, which was released in 2017 via The Playground Records, broke new ground in the wave scene and remains a masterpiece. It’s a formidable showcase of his trademark melodious touch, combined with an unmissable air of desolation and euphoria that potently reflect the duality of light and dark. The EP received wide acclaim, and was featured on Spotify Editorial Playlists such as Electronic Mix, Witch House Mix, Ambient Mix and The Sound Of Wave.

While Øfdream drew inspiration from the likes of Aphex Twin, The Prodigy and Massive Attack, his music helped pave the way for a new cohort of wave producers who feel called to create from a space of intention.
Øfdream’s posthumous EP Millenium was released in 2023, and features four celestial tracks which ebb and flow between elements of trap and EDM, all packaged in superlative sound design. The EP reflects his ingenuity and creative fervor sublimely, and although it may be the “final” release from Øfdream, his legacy will continue to move, inspire and embolden listeners and artists alike for generations to come.
