London-based Tommy Down, a versatile multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer-songwriter, is creating a stir with his intoxicating fusion of jazz, rock, and psychedelic soul. His new single, ‘Do You Want It All?’, which premiered on CLASH Magazine on 28 February, is already capturing attention. With his hit ‘Mrs. Blue’ surpassing an impressive 5.7 million streams on Spotify, it’s clear that Tommy’s sound is resonating on a massive scale. Formerly part of the Bristol-based jazz ensemble BUJO, he has collaborated with industry heavyweights like Jeffrey Silverman, Jon Shave, and Jason Pebworth of Invisible Men, while also performing at high-profile events such as Camden Rocks Festival. His music has even made its way into six episodes of HBO’s Industry, co-created by his brother Mickey Down. Now, producing and performing with a live band, Tommy’s upcoming 2025 EP is poised to blend psychedelic rock with soulful melodies, drawing influence from artists like Radiohead, Mitski, and Al Green.
‘Do You Want It All?’ is a dreamy, soul-stirring track that will captivate fans of Mazzy Star, Radiohead, and Jeff Buckley, while also appealing to followers of the reverb-heavy psych-rock sounds of Skinshape and Khruangbin. At its heart, the song pays tribute to Thom Yorke’s haunting songwriting, infused with Tommy Down’s signature soulful touch. The track features airy guitars from bandmate Tom Herzberg (pictured on the cover), enveloped in lush reverb. Evocatively existential, it transports listeners to the heavens, offering a fresh perspective on the world below.
Tommy divulged: “The song draws from some Radiohead tracks like ‘Creep’ but with a shoegazery spin to it. Mazzy Star is also an inspiration. The lyrics are about maintaining your soul and morals in your pursuit to gaining all your worldly possessions and acclaim. Managed to get a Bob Marley quote in there ‘Live for yourself and live in vain but live for others and you will live again’.”
