For anyone seriously immersed in dance and electronic music, the sounds of Moving Shadow have remained a constant presence. Although the legendary label ceased releasing music in 2008, its records have continued to be played, sampled and referenced by generations of artists across the underground and mainstream.
Now, that legacy is moving forward through Over/Shadow.
Created by 2 Bad Mice, Over/Shadow was established to continue a journey that was cut short in 1997 after their departure from Moving Shadow. The label brings together historic Moving Shadow producers alongside new artists who share the same vision, creating a platform that looks toward the future while remaining deeply connected to its roots.
The project grew from a desire to keep the spirit of that musical family alive. Over/Shadow’s approach is deliberately difficult to place inside a single genre or formula. While Jungle and Drum & Bass run deep within its DNA, the label is committed to surprising listeners through its curation and refusing to be boxed into specific styles.
With artists including DJ Trax, Foul Play, Dom + Roland, ETCH, Technical Itch, Law, Sully, ASC, Paradox, Loxy and Sheba Q among its roster, Over/Shadow represents a broad spectrum of forward-thinking electronic music. With a new DJ Trax album and the label’s 50th release on the horizon, Over/Shadow continues to forge its own path.
We caught up with the label to discuss its origins, its philosophy, its approach to artists, the changing music industry and what comes next.
Please introduce your label and share the story behind how it started.
Over/Shadow was created by 2 Bad Mice to continue the journey cut short in 1997 after they left Moving Shadow. The aim is to work with historic Moving Shadow producers and new artists who share the same vision.
What inspired the name and identity of the label?
We want to continue to surprise jungle and DnB fans with the label’s curation and not be tied to specific styles and genres.
The name… well….
How would you describe the label’s sound? Which genres and subgenres does the label primarily focus on or represent?
We do not want the label to be “boxed off” as just DnB or Jungle, but that sound runs deep in our DNA.

What do you look for when signing or working with artists?
Honesty, an ability to be daring and people who want to work as a family unit.

How has the music industry, particularly with the rise of AI, changed since the label first launched?
The wider industry continues to follow trends, we go in the opposite direction.
What challenges have you faced as an independent label, and how have you overcome them?
You name it, we have faced it.
Profit margins are the biggest issues, but if you are proactive and busy, you can reduce these.
Are there any upcoming releases, collaborations, or projects that fans should look out for?
We have a new DJ Trax album as well as our 50th release.
What’s the long-term vision and goal for the label moving forward?
To keep forging a path in forward-thinking jungle and drum and bass…
