MXGPU Unveil Synergetic Debut Album ‘SUDDEN LIGHT’

Lisbon’s MXGPU – the collaborative venture of electronic polymath Moullinex and singer/producer GPU Panic – released their long-awaited debut album SUDDEN LIGHT on 26 September 2025 via Discotexas. Between them, the duo carry a weighty track record: Moullinex (Luís Clara Gomes) has helmed four celebrated albums for the label, remixed Cut Copy’s ‘Lights & Music’ to a Beatport #1, and been profiled by CLASH, Future Music, and Dezeen for his trailblazing use of AI visuals. GPU Panic (Guilherme Tomé Ribeiro), a Red Bull Music Academy alumnus, has built a catalogue across Get Physical, Watergate, and TAU, earning support from RÜFÜS DU SOL and Keinemusik’s &ME. Together, as MXGPU, their live performances have already commanded stages at Primavera Porto, NOS Alive, Wonderfruit, and sold-out debuts at Lisbon’s MAAT and Porto’s Casa da Música.

The pairing was always destined to spark. Moullinex has long been revered for his melodic sensibility and ability to turn left-field electronics into something intimate, while GPU Panic’s voice and production style lean into the emotive, the cinematic, and the vulnerable. MXGPU crystallises these strengths into a sound sure to ensnare fans of JOPLYN, Yulia Niko, and DJ Holographic. Their signature 360° live show, complete with sci-fi visuals, Turrell-inspired lighting, and synth-heavy walls of sound, dissolves the divide between performer and audience – a fitting metaphor for the dual intimacy and expansiveness that defines their music.

SUDDEN LIGHT carries that spirit into record form. Anchored by the soaring single into flames’, the album arcs across cathartic ballads, sprawling synth odysseys, and euphoric club cuts. The fan favourite ‘take me home’ spins synthwave into an emotional live anthem; ‘find u’ ventures into liquid drum & bass; while ‘slow down’ meditates in hypnotic rhythms and hushed whispers. Elsewhere, highlights emerge in the rapture of ease featuring Malou, the muscular drive of ‘the fall’, the nocturnal broodiness of ‘shout in the dark’, and closing reflection ‘symptom of u’.

“‘into flames’ was the last track we finished for the album. It took a lot of back and forth, many different shapes and sizes until we landed on this version,” MXGPU explained. “Maybe because of this fact, its sonics are probably the ones we connect the most to Sudden Light. Thematically it’s about falling madly in love with someone, and not being able to contain these feelings inside ourselves any longer.” They add: “Sudden Light is an interruption. A shout in the dark. A spark of transformation. A sudden rush of clarity. Our coming together as Moullinex and GPU Panic, and step towards MXGPU.”
