The Music Venue Trust (MVT), a UK registered charity founded in 2014 to protect, secure, and improve grassroots music venues, is endorsing Tickets9, a new ethical ticket resale platform launched on January 29, designed to put fans first by capping all resale tickets at face value. For events with capacities of 5,000 or more, Tickets9 will also add a £1 levy per ticket sale, with proceeds supporting grassroots music venues struggling under financial pressure. While a 12% booking fee will still apply, it will go directly to sellers, who must provide proof of purchase to ensure transparency.
MVT’s Denzil Thomas emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that Tickets9’s platform is built to generate reliable, long-term income for the grassroots sector. “This partnership gives fans an ethical option that makes a real difference to the places where new artists learn their craft,” Thomas said. The initiative aligns with recent UK government regulations limiting ticket resale prices to face value, aiming to curb scalping and protect fans.
Tickets9’s statement reinforces its commitment to the music community: “Supporting grassroots venues has been at the heart of everything we’ve built. By donating £1 per ticket on every qualifying resale and partnering with MVT, we’re offering fans a truly ethical way to buy and sell tickets while helping protect the small venues we all love.”
The platform is setting a new standard for fairness and sustainability in live music ticketing.
