Hot Chip are back with their ninth studio album, A Long Way From Kansas, arriving January 8 on Domino Records. Building on the momentum of 2022’s Freakout/Release, the new record welcomes guest appearances from Eddie Chacon and Beth Ditto of Gossip, pushing the band’s collaborative spirit even further. With Domino once again by their side, Hot Chip continue to carve out their unique space where inventive pop meets bold electronic exploration.
The first single ‘Random Violence’ has already been released and functions as a tribute to Optimo (Espacio)‘s JD Twitch, the DJ Keith McIvor who died last year. The track relates to the circumstances of that death and to memories connected with Sub Club in Glasgow and is expressed through its upbeat cadence and bright vocals through stylistic layering in the songs arrangement. Hot Chip will tour South America and Europe throughout the rest of 2026 and early 2027, including a stop at Sub Club on October 21. Hot Chip guitarist Al Doyle, also of LCD Soundsystem, recently unveiled details of his own solo album Hollywood Saviour, out November 20th via DFA Records.
Joe Goddard shared: “Last year in September our old friend and brilliant DJ Keith McIvor of Optimo in Glasgow passed away after a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour a few months earlier. He was a passionate music lover and a staunch believer in socialism. Many of the words relate directly to his death and to memories of being in Sub Club in Glasgow where we met 20 years ago.“
