Rising rock band Grayscale return with the deluxe edition of their acclaimed fourth studio album The Hart, spotlighted by a stunning new focus track and video, ‘Painting Over You (with Cassadee Pope)’, which premiered via CLASH Magazine. Released on 3 December 2025 through Infield, the expanded album caps off a milestone year for the Philadelphia-born group, whose growing influence is reflected in millions of streams, features in Forbes, Rock Sound, and Good Guys Press, and performances at major festivals including Slam Dunk, Riot Fest, Firefly, Sad Summer Fest, and So What?! Fest. With a global touring history alongside acts like All Time Low, Gym Class Heroes, The Band Camino, and Smallpools, and a packed UK/EU headline run slated for the remainder of 2025, Grayscale continue to cement their place in modern alt-rock—balancing evolution with emotional depth, community commitment, and a sound that resonates with fans of Inhaler, Slowly Slowly, The Killers, and Cage The Elephant.

Paint us a picture: what sparked your passion for the arts in the first place? Was there a single moment or experience that solidified your decision to pursue this path?
My 9th grade English teacher Mrs. Hohman used to have these writing sessions called Friday Free Writes. Each week, one student would choose a song to listen to, and the whole class would write freely without thinking too hard. This exercise, paired with my deep love for music since I was young, taught me that writing can be fun, and eventually even a means of expressing my feelings in a more open way. This led me to writing poetry and eventually songs.
When you create, what leads the way – a feeling, a story, or the sound itself?
Any of those can lead the way, I just need one of them to compel me to fall deep into the zone and make art.
What’s in your toolkit? Share the gear, gadgets, or software you can’t create without.
Guitar sound, drums, and a lyric sheet with my thoughts.
What’s your go-to ritual or trick for getting into the creative zone?
Listening to music I love from the 90s and 2000s, and a ton of caffeine or sometimes red wine depending on the time of day.
What’s the one item you always keep within arm’s reach while creating or performing?
Iced coffee. I generally pace all around for hours while writing in a room
How did you ultimately end up defining your sound?
It has been something Grayscale has dug deeper and deeper towards every record. I feel that this most recent record, The Hart, is by far the most authentic version of our band — it’s what we loved from our early records all combined and refined in the most genuine way
How has your creative process or perspective shifted since you started your journey?
It hasn’t really, I have just found more and more as time goes on that the only reason I love this is because of the craft of songwriting. Writing songs that affect me personally and other people is why I do this. I want to make impactful art that lasts after I am gone.
Walk us through a recording session: what’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in the studio?
Going back and forth thinking I am a genius and the worst musician of all time every single day is what every recording session is for me and most musicians I know.
Are there any unexpected or dream collaborations hidden in your work?
No
Any side projects you’re working on?
No
Who’s an emerging artist you think deserves more recognition right now?
I would have said Dijon a few years ago but he’s getting his flowers now, which makes me happy
What’s the strangest or most surprising song currently on your playlist?
Nothing notable, really.
Which song, album or playlist do you never get sick of no matter how many times you listen to it?
Sam Fender – Nostalgia’s Lie or Oasis – Slide Away
Are there any unexpected hobbies or projects you’re exploring outside of your main work?
I love to golf, travel and hike.
If your life and career were an album, what would its title be, and what’s the hidden track only your fans would know?
A man learning to express his emotions would be the album title. I love being with people I love but love being alone more and more would be the hidden track
Give us a glimpse into the future – what surprises or milestones are coming up for you this year?
Grayscale played in Australia and headlined UK/EU this year — it was incredible. I have done pretty much everything I have ever wanted to do with music, not sure what next year has in store yet.
Famous last words?
Long live rock n roll
