Out today, April 25th on Ministry of Sound, ‘Tell Me Where U Go’ marks a bold new chapter for Clean Bandit, the genre-bending UK trio, as they team up with legendary Dutch DJ Tiësto and rising German star Leony for an anthem fuses pop’s universal appeal with the propulsive force of trance. ‘Tell Me Where U Go’ continues Clean Bandit’s triumphant return to the scene following their 2024 single ‘Cry Baby’ with Anne-Marie and David Guetta, a streaming juggernaut that held strong in the UK charts for over ten weeks and further showcased the trio’s signature fusion of emotional resonance and crisp pop production finesse.
Over the past decade, Clean Bandit have become architects of UK pop’s modern landscape, crafting era-defining hits like ‘Rather Be’, ‘Symphony’, ‘Rockabye’, and ‘Solo’ Known for directing and editing their own visually arresting music videos, they’ve earned billions of streams and views, 8 BRIT nominations, two Top Tens in the USA, and a seat among the few UK bands with four songs surpassing one billion streams on Spotify. Jack, the band’s key songwriter, has won two Ivor Novello Awards for his work, having also penned hits for other artists such as Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes, MARINA, Becky Hill, Jess Glynne and Ellie Goulding.
Premiered during Tiësto’s Ultra Music Festival set in Miami, ‘Tell Me Where U Go’ instantly captivated audiences with its hypnotic vocal hooks, swelling synths, and sheer ethereality. Vocals from Leony, recorded in Berlin in a session that crackled with chemistry, effortlessly glide between bouncy, impassioned pop hooks and hyperactive, spliced samples thrumming in kaleidoscopic wonder.
A raw vulnerability is woven into every beat of the track, which Jack of Clean Bandit co-wrote with Jason Gill, Cleo Tighe, and Jake Torrey, a songwriting dream team whose lyrical sharpness finds new emotional ground here. Grace Chatto, the group’s ever-iconic cellist, describes the track’s genre as “Classical Djembe Trance”, an aptly surreal name for a track that blends orchestral elegance, earthy percussion, and massive club energy.
Beneath the high-octane surface lies something deeply personal. The song’s title, as Jack shares, was born in a therapy session. “My therapist said I dissociate sometimes. She said to me, ‘tell me where you go.’ After the session I went to the studio, and we made this song.”
‘Tell Me Where U Go’ is a testimony to the alchemy of collaboration, finally bringing three powerhouses into each other’s orbit in a way that feels refreshingly novel, yet inevitable.
