Charli XCX Continues To Rule 2024
In a year that’s seen her dominate charts, pack arenas, and expand her artistic horizons, Charli XCX is proving to be an unstoppable force in the entertainment industry. The British pop sensation is riding high on the success of her sixth studio album, brat, while simultaneously venturing into film and continuing to push the boundaries of pop music.
Released in June, brat, has become a cultural phenomenon, defying conventional pop wisdom with its spiky, non-commercial sound. Thirteen weeks after its release, brat still holds strong at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart, showcasing its remarkable staying power.
The album’s success has catapulted Charli XCX to new heights. Currently on the Sweat tour with Troye Sivan, Charli is selling out arenas across the United States. The tour’s kickoff at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena saw over 13,000 fans in attendance, a far cry from her 1,700-capacity show at the Royal Oak Music Theatre just two years ago.
The singer is also set to release brat and it’s completely different but also still brat on October 11th, a project that will see 15 tracks from her Mercury Prize-shortlisted album receive the remix treatment. Four songs have already been released, including a remix of Von Dutch by A.G. Cook featuring Addison Rae, with details of the remaining tracks eagerly anticipated by fans.
Beyond music, Charli XCX is making significant strides in the film industry. She’s set to star in 100 Nights of Hero, a queer period fantasy directed by Julia Jackman. The film, based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel, will see Charli sharing the screen with Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, and Nicholas Galitzine. This isn’t her only foray into acting; she’s also joined the cast of I Want Your Sex alongside Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, and is set to make her live-action feature debut in a remake of the cult classic Faces of Death.
Charli’s involvement in film extends beyond acting. She’s co-executive producing the score for David Lowery’s pop melodrama Mother Mary with Jack Antonoff, and writing original music for Benito Skinner’s upcoming Prime Video series, Overcompensating.
