With over 25 years in the industry, he has performed under various aliases, including Bruno V and DuoProp, earning a place among Brazil’s most influential electronic artists. His journey began in the late ’80s, DJing on Recife’s radio stations before making waves in the 2000s at Skol Beats, Creamfields, and beyond. Over the years, he has shared the stage with legends like David Guetta, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, and Sasha, while also mastering the guitar, electric guitar, and keyboards. What sparked your passion for the arts? Was there a single moment that solidified your decision to pursue this path?
The first time I heard Pink Floyd’s The Wall changed my life forever. My mother gave me the LP in 1983. I was seven.
When you create, what leads the way – a feeling, a story, or the sound itself?
My creative process always starts with the sound itself. Sometimes we want to write within a specific context or story, but it evolves around experiencing the sounds.
What’s in your toolkit? Share the gear, gadgets, or software you can’t create without.
Having Ableton Live as my DAW platform, my sound is shaped around some classic synths: a Moog Sub37 and a Juno. I recently got the Novation Summit synth, which is a beast! I also use software like Kontakt, Diva, and Serum, along with my guitars and gear.
What’s your go-to ritual or trick for getting into the creative zone?
When I started recording good ideas as short iPhone videos while jamming with a guitar or piano, it completely changed my starting point. I strongly recommend it!
What’s the one item you always keep within arm’s reach while creating or performing?
I don’t have that mindset with any specific gear.
How did you ultimately end up defining your sound?
It took time for me to absorb and embrace that fewer sounds create better tunes.
How has your creative process or perspective shifted since you started your journey?
Electronic music has evolved a lot in the past two decades. My perspective shifted from complex, layered, long melodies to more groove-driven, dancefloor-focused tracks.
Walk us through a recording session: what’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in the studio?
When I finished ‘Bloom’, my comeback track released by Doc Records at the end of 2024, I knew I had something special.
Are there any unexpected or dream collaborations hidden in your work?
Maybe one day I will produce an album with my son. He’s a music genius.
Any side projects you’re working on?
Musically, I’m 100% focused on BRVNOV now.
Who’s an emerging artist you think deserves more recognition right now?
I think JP Castro from Brazil will be huge soon.
What’s the strangest or most surprising song currently on your playlist?
I love Tim Green’s remix of Underworld’s ‘Two Months Off’. It gives me goosebumps – not just in the moment, but also for the memories.
Which song, album, or playlist do you never get sick of?
Chicane’s Behind the Sun is a seminal album for me. A reference.
Are there any unexpected hobbies or projects you’re exploring outside of your main work?
I love horses and have competed in high-level show jumping since I was a kid. It’s the other side of me.
If your life and career were an album, what would its title be, and what’s the hidden track only your fans would know?
Nomad would definitely be the title. The hidden track would be an acoustic guitar piece I wrote years ago but couldn’t fit into a dance album. It’s called ‘Cycles’.
What surprises or milestones are coming up for you this year?
I hope to release my full album Nomad in a few months and perform it at special gigs throughout the year.
Famous last words?
When men plan, God laughs.
