Set the tone for us. Why the arts?
There was no other choice. Following the path of music has always been within us. So much so that our Plan B is Plan A. =)
Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?
There is no predetermined order. Some sounds come to mind and end up being complemented when we put them into practice, sometimes there is a feeling we want to express and translate into music. The only thing we always take into consideration is not to force anything.
Does your material feature any collaborations?
We like to work with other artists with whom we connect in a way that goes beyond music. It goes far beyond recognizing each other’s work, we have to feel comfortable with the person we’re collaborating with – there needs to be trust. We’ve had the opportunity to work with artists like Fatum, and soon we’ll have releases with Khainz and Mariz, who is a great Brazilian talent.
What’s on your current playlist?
Each of us is listening to very different things. Rene is freaking out on a very Indie Dance vibe and Camila is listening to a lot of Peak Time. For us it is very interesting to be in touch with different styles to enrich our productions when we are in the studio. In addition, we like to listen to other genres, such as Rap, Blues, Folk…
Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.
We have a magical connection with the dancefloor wherever we go because we have this vibe of moving a lot while we play, of connecting with people through looks and movements. Also, we know that the interaction between the two of us triggers people, because they see that we’re having fun all the time. We behave on stage the same way they behave on the dancefloor. I think that’s why our shows are so special.
What techniques do you experiment with to get your original sound?
Listening to music from outside of our scene and trying different things, sampling techniques or virtual synthesizers that we are not used to.
BINARYH’s characteristic sound emerges when we are processing all these things in two different chips – combined 😉
Take us through a day in the recording studio.
There are days when everything goes right, even the wrong clicks sound good.
On those days, some songs that marked us were made, I think starting with Apus, it was something that nobody was doing, an electronic orchestra.
When we finished, we knew we had done something special, a sound that gave us goosebumps.
Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “this is what I want to do”?
These moments are constantly present to this day.
We are the kind of artists who get emotional with the songs we play, we remember special moments, a time of our innocence in the face of everything we see. It wasn’t a choice, it had to be.
What do you keep close by while you’re playing a set?
Cigarettes and a glass of Gin with Red Bull =)
Any emerging artists on your radar?
Because we have DECØDED, our melodic techno label created here in Brazil, it’s natural that we’re always on the lookout for new talent, including national talent. We like to see the evolution that the genre is undergoing and this also develops new and very talented producers. Here in Brazilian lands we are always keeping an eye on what BigFett and Mariz are doing, but we also have other names to mention, such as Caike, Riko & Gugga, Fabian B, among others.
What gets your creative juices flowing?
Listening to a little bit of everything, there is always something that makes us run to the studio when we listen to something great – and it doesn’t have to be electronic.
Take us through your collection of gear, tech or software that accompanies your creative expression.
For some time we have been working totally “In the Box”.
We have a robust workflow with Native Instruments, Arturia, Refx, Spectrasonic, Slate Digital, Plugin Alliance – and we are always working the old fashioned way too (sampling things).
Any side projects you’re working on?
We intend to expand the activities of our DECØDED label beyond music releases. Now we feel prepared to give life to the label’s showcase, bringing our friends, international artists, to Brazil, and presenting new breakthrough artists of Brazilian melodic techno to our audience.
How have you refined your craft since you entered the industry?
Not letting the industry affect us. We are DJs who like the art of mixing music and producers who like to make music, regardless of labels or hype.
In our computer you can find our songs from 120 to 135 BPM, instrumental versions – and whatever we pick, we love to make it blend perfectly with the tracks before and after.
Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you this year?
We are working on many new songs, as always.
Exploring new sounds we hope will surprise the listeners.
Throughout our journey in music we had the privilege to see great DJs surprising us with songs that we didn’t expect – which somehow brought a special atmosphere to the moment.
Now we have the power to do that, to continue a legacy of artists we admire.
Famous last words?
Be emotional: the world is already too cold. Be emotional: be moved by love, not its shadow.
