BICEP’s DOVE Alias Drops A Stirring Track ‘CHROMA 009 KR36’ ft. Kehina

CHROMA 009 KR36’ is the latest transmission from BICEP’s alter ego project, DOVE. Released on April 16 via their CHROMA label, the track is a restless, hypnotic collaboration with London-based artist Kehina – her vocals flickering like heat waves through a percussive fog of breakbeats and synth haze. It is the second outing under DOVE, the duo’s shadow-side project described as “an extreme version of the BICEP sound – heavier but also calmer.” Where BICEP’s core catalogue often dances between euphoria and melancholia, DOVE leans into something murkier, more elemental. CHROMA 009 KR36’ doesn’t explode – it smolders, pulses, and unfurls like smoke in a dark room.

Kehina’s contribution is a tether to memory and meaning. “It reminds me of a lot of the music my mum used to play when I was a kid – particularly North African Gnawa,” she shares. “That same hypnotic rhythm, that trance you fall into while dancing.” Written just months after undergoing vocal surgery, the track became a personal resurrection of sorts – “it pulled me out of my head and reminded me why I love making music.”

Launched just over a year ago, CHROMA has quickly grown into more than a label, with a series of curated releases, immersive AV/DJ experiences, and a distinct visual world crafted with longtime collaborator David Rudnick and his Terrain studio. From debuting CHROMA 001 HELIUM to the genre-skewing explorations under side projects like B.D.B (with Benjamin Damage) and DOVE, the Belfast duo are using CHROMA as a place to play with form, abandon structure, and let instinct lead.

That ethos carries into their hybrid CHROMA live shows – more ritual than rave, fusing turntables with drum machines, pedals, and evolving AV elements. In just over a year, they’ve headlined Glastonbury, Coachella, Wilderness, and sold out massive open-air takeovers at Finsbury Park and Brighton Beach. Most recently, their sold-out CHROMA In The Sheds takeover in London saw them bring the project to new heights – visually stunning, sonically expansive, and emotionally charged.

It was during one of these milestone moments – a special DOVE set at Fabric’s 25th birthday – that Matt McBriar returned to the stage for the first time after major brain surgery, following the removal of a rare, non-cancerous tumour. That night, under the weight of history and healing, CHROMA’s purpose crystallized: a space not just for sound and spectacle, but for transformation.

CHROMA 009 KR36 feels like a continuation of that story – not a track built for chart positions or radio edits, but for movement and memory. For dimly-lit rooms; the spaces between celebration and reflection. For the people who understand that sometimes, the heaviest music doesn’t scream – it whispers, then shakes the floor.

As CHROMA’s catalogue grows and a physical release nears, one thing becomes clear: BICEP aren’t just releasing music – they’re building a universe. One beat, one alias, and one moment at a time.
