Avalon Emerson has returned with a pulse-raising rework of Moby’s 1992 rave classic in ‘E After Next’, the latest instalment in her evolving Perpetual Emotion Machine series, out now via Dead Oceans. Long a staple in her high-octane DJ sets, the track breathes new life into Moby’s iconic ‘Next Is the E’, melding nostalgia with razor-sharp contemporary club energy. It’s the first official release of the remix, which has built anticipation among fans and crate-diggers alike.
Known for her genre-blurring sonic palette and dream-pop experimentation on Avalon Emerson & the Charm (2023), Emerson pivots fully into dancefloor mode in this latest outing. With the Perpetual Emotion Machine series, she aims to release tracks built for club utility. As she puts it, “These songs were created for my DJ sets… and the machine steams on.” Her distinct production voice, marked by restless layering and rhythmic clarity, transforms Moby’s early rave hit into something sleeker and more introspective, while preserving its euphoric intent.
‘E After Next’ opens with reverberating synth stabs and a driving percussive spine, gradually unfolding into a hypnotic build that honours its early ’90s roots while tapping into the kinetic energy of today’s global dance floors. Where Moby’s original raced with manic urgency, Emerson’s version thrums with darker club textures, creating a sharp , spacious reimagining that showcases both artists at their most resonant.
