Listen to ‘Get Back’ while reading the interview below:
Hi Alden Song, how are you?
Hey, I’m doing well – thanks for having me!
What was the core motivation behind starting the ‘Get Back’ track?
When I was making the track, I wanted something that was super clubby that I could throw in my sets. Something that would work well to keep the dancefloor moving in between the bigger records.
Can you describe the atmosphere in the studio when you first began working on it?
Like always, it was fun! Most of the records I release are ones that just flow out of me. The ideas kept on coming and I’ll never forget the moment when I found the pre-drop vocal.
What does this track represent within your wider artistic journey?
It represents a groovier, less radio-friendly sound. Not everyone is going to like this one, but when I play it out in clubs and in my sets, it keeps people moving. It shines on the dancefloor, and I think it’s found its home there.
Looking back at your earlier releases, where do you feel the biggest sense of evolution with this one?
I think this one represents the direction I want to take my sound. I think my ability to keep the production minimalistic while also keeping it high in energy was my biggest achievement with this record.
Can you walk us through your creative process from the initial idea right through to the final master?
Like always, I started with the drums, and I actually found the “shut the f up” vocal before I found the “get back” sample. And then, when I added the stab sound, it all came together!
With “Get Back,” what was the key emotion or energy you wanted to convey, and how does that compare to your previous work?
I wanted a high-energy club record that wasn’t afraid to be relentless. I think this one is definitely a little darker than my normal releases, and that’s why it stands out.
What continues to drive your passion for making music at this stage in your career?
I love making music that makes people move! I also just want to make different-sounding music, since a lot of the stuff I’ve been hearing sounds the same in my opinion. I want to stand out and not blend in with the noise.
How do you personally define success when it comes to your output as an artist?
In terms of my music career, it just means the more opportunities I get to do what I love. Making music, DJing, performing, it’s all I think about and that’s success to me.
Looking ahead, how does this release shape the direction you want to explore next?
I definitely have been enjoying making more underground, club-driven tracks. So that’s the direction I’ve been moving in, and my latest releases have been showing that trend.
