Bonobo Announces New Album ‘Distance in Static,’ Out September 11th

Electronic musician Simon Green, also known as Bonobo, has officially announced his latest album, Distance in Static, set for release on September 11th via Ninja Tune. The announcement comes alongside the launch of the album’s lead single, ‘Me and You,’ which has already gained traction in his recent DJ sets in London and Paris.

The upcoming project features a diverse array of collaborators, including Arooj Aftab, Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis, and Aanya Martin. Recorded across global recording sessions in cities like Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London, and notably at Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Ranch, the album explores themes of transcendence and duality, bridging the gap between his introspective compositions and club-focused DJ selections.

Representing a shift in Green’s 25-year career, this record moves away from his traditional landscape aesthetic. In collaboration with designer Trevor Jackson, the visual identity employs John I. Koivula’s microscopic photography to create “crystalline alien worlds.” Green views this project as a potential turning point, suggesting it may be his final album to feature a traditional guest-heavy format and a large-scale tour. The title, Distance in Static, encapsulates his search for clarity and meaning within his long-standing career in electronic music.

To support the release, Bonobo has unveiled a brand-new live show designed by Pierre Claude, known for his work with Air and Gesaffelstein. This production will accompany a major headline tour across North America, beginning this November.
