Just four months after their last covers collection, the experimental band Xiu Xiu has announced a new album inspired by David Lynch, titled Eraserhead Xiu Xiu. They also shared an eerie cover of ‘In Dreams’ to accompany the announcement.
The band revealed that the seven-track album, recorded in Berlin, pays tribute to Lynch’s 1977 film Eraserhead. Set for release on July 10, 2026, via Polyvinyl, the project delves into the film’s “sonic and visual universe.” Their rendition of ‘In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song),’ originally by Peter Ivers and Lynch, is a haunting, minimalist track featuring theatrical vocals reminiscent of Scott Walker and a solitary bell, before it transitions into field recordings.
Following the death of David Lynch, Xiu Xiu revisited his body of work for inspiration on Eraserhead Xiu Xiu, utilising electrical interference, homemade instruments, found sounds, modular synths, and flashlights to recreate the film’s eerie atmosphere. The band will perform the album live in California this October, with shows scheduled in Los Angeles on October 2 and 3, and in San Francisco on October 8. This follows their announcement last year that they would be removing their music from Spotify due to the platform’s then-CEO’s “investment in AI war drones.”
