Wet Leg – ‘mangetout (The Dare remix)’

Isle of Wight indie-rock sensations Wet Leg have been basking in the success of their chart-topping, Grammy-nominated 2025 LP moisturizer, celebrated for their clever lyricism and off-kilter post-punk sensibility. At the centre of the album sits its catchiest standout, ‘mangetout’, which twists jagged guitar riffs and syncopated rhythms into a defiant yet whimsical anthem for telling some loser to “get lost forever”.

In the hands of The Dare, the track pivots decisively toward the club.

The Charli xcx collaborator reframes the track through a harder, electroclash-leaning lens. A compressed four-on-the-floor anchors the remix from the outset, replacing the original’s post-punk looseness with something more direct and physical. The bassline is thick, elastic, and funky, sitting low and forward in the mix, while distorted synth stabs flicker at the edges with deliberate abrasion and frontwoman Rhian Teasedale’s vocals ricochet with cool, bratty confidence around the beat.

The original track is cool and detached, while The Dare’s rendition tightens the screws, keeping it playful and wry, but transforming it into something more kinetic and colourful. There is a clear lineage in The Dare’s approach: dance-punk urgency, electroclash attitude, and a nod to early 2010s blog-era excess. Yet, on this remix, the production remains disciplined – each choice feels intentional and sculpted, rather than reckless.

Following the track’s recent spotlight in HBO’s Heated Rivalry and sustained support from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, this remix extends the lifecycle of ‘mangetout’ in a meaningful way. It does not reinvent the song entirely, but it recalibrates its centre of gravity, pulling it closer to the dancefloor and imbuing it with new life in the process.
