A documentary about The Orb has long been overdue. The Orb’s ambient musical output is so paramount to the development of electronica that it should need little introduction to the discerning Inverted Audio reader. Following the release of their two new albums on Kompakt “Moonbuilding 2703 AD” and “COW / Chill Out World”, film director Patrick Buchanan took the chance to find out more about the legendary group, their evolution and modus operandi.
The forthcoming documentary traces the creative progress behind last year’s Moonbuilding 2703 AD. Lunar Orbit. If the trailer is any indication, it appears to be an informative look into The Orb’s transcendent world.
The full film gains intimate studio access to the duo’s Moonbuilding 2703AD recording sessions in Berlin, featuring live concert footage, never before seen archive material and interviews with Youth (Killing Joke), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd), Mixmaster Morris, Matt Black (Coldcut), and members of The Orb’s extended family to name but a few.
Lunar Orbit is being screened as part of the Doc‘n Roll Film Festival in London at Picture House Central, followed by a Q&A, with The Orb’s extended family. The release party takes place November 11th at The Social (Portland St, London) 8.30pm – 1am, featuring a DJ set by Alex Patterson, plus guest DJ’s.
