London listening bar Spiritland is set to open a new temporary venue inside the Barbican Centre this month, bringing its high-fidelity approach to music programming, food and drink to one of the capital’s most prominent cultural institutions.
Spiritland at the Barbican opens October 20 on Level 2’s Lakeside Room, running through July 2027 to mark the 10th anniversary of Spiritland’s King’s Cross venue. Operating Tuesday to Sunday with a 100-person capacity, the space features a custom Living Voice sound system with R252 loudspeakers. Its exploratory music programme covers jazz, soul, classical, ambient, and electronica, highlighted by a full-album playback daily at 5pm.
Beyond record listening, the residency features talks, tastings, and supper clubs. Early bookings include Bill Brewster, Pete Herbert, Mari, Dan Mela, and Martin Green, alongside October sessions from founder Paul Noble and specialist selectors. A new food and drink offering overseen by alumni of Lardo, Smoking Goat, Milroys, and St. John brings European and Japanese influences, cocktails, wine, beer, non-alcoholic drinks, and weekend brunch.
