The UK’s multifaceted Heron – singer, songwriter, producer, and visual artist – has dropped his vibrant new single ‘Read My Mind’, released on April 28, 2025, heralding the arrival of his eagerly awaited sophomore album. Known for his genre-blending artistry, Heron has already carved a niche with his debut album, earning accolades like The Sunday Times Culture Magazine’s Record of the Week and spins on Radio X with John Kennedy. His collaboration with rising star Cathy Jain and support from BBC Introducing for ‘Transcendental Meditation’ cemented his reputation as a shape-shifter in indie music. With ‘Read My Mind’, Heron leans into a kaleidoscopic mix of psychedelic pop, folk rock, and retro flair, showcasing his knack for fusing vintage vibes with a contemporary edge.
‘Read My Mind’ is a sonic odyssey, kicking off with crisp 60s-inspired drum breaks and a grooving bassline that propel the verses forward. The track erupts into a lush, psychedelic chorus, where theremin wails and Hammond organ swirls evoke the cosmic grandeur of David Bowie or The Beatles’ White Album. A dreamy middle section pulls listeners into a temporal vortex, with Heron’s honky-tonk piano anchoring a euphoric key change that feels like a nod to classic pop’s golden era. Lyrically, the song wrestles with introspection and the search for redemption, wrapped in Heron’s lively vocal delivery – a performance that balances raw emotion with melodic finesse.
“‘Read My Mind’ is one of those songs where I tried to write down my thoughts to describe an experience that felt almost impossible to put into words,” Heron shares. “I’m not really a fan of saying exactly what a song is about, because doing so can spoil or limit the possibilities for people who want to find their own meaning in it.”
True to his DIY spirit, Heron wrote, performed, produced, and mixed the track solo, even directing its vivid music video and crafting the single’s artwork. For Heron, the song is a shared canvas: “Once a song is out in the world, it’s not really mine anymore. It belongs to everyone, and people are absolutely right to feel a song is about whatever it means to them.”
