The Canadian leftfield pop singer and elfin Queen Grimes recently confirmed a highly anticipated and long overdue European tour at the start of next year. Following on from the breakthrough album ‘Visions’, the prodigious talent became a unique viral sensation virtually overnight, and was declared the saviour of the ‘Tumblr generation’… causing her to retreat back into her self contained artistic shell in her native Montreal for the last few years as the pressure reportedly got too much for her.
The good news is however, that the maverick producer (real name Claire Elise Boucher) is now back – with her brainchild four full-length release Art Angels, a maximalist blaze of helium pumped K-Pop influenced melodies, which features guest producers Aristophanes and Janelle Monáe, and more live solo instrumentation than ever before, not to mention her own distinctly impressive illustrations which are featured on the promotional visuals.
Her forthcoming international tour – Acid Reign has been so far described as a ‘uniquely immersive live experience’, and sounds set to be every bit as energetic as we were bargaining for. After ditching the entire album and starting completely from scratch, Boucher will be dropping numerous fresh tracks for her championing crowds.
The international tour will be making its way around Europe for a total of six weeks and kicks off in Berlin on the 17th February, and will also involve a brief stop off in the UK. Grimes will head to Bristol on March the 6th, before traveling up to Glasgow and Leeds for one off shows. So, it sounds like we should be bracing ourselves for one of the most epic live shows of 2016…
