Eight people, including a 12-year-old boy, have been arrested following a series of incidents involving attempts to gain entry to Edinburgh’s FLY Festival without tickets.
Police Scotland said officers policing the event at Princes Street Gardens on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, were confronted by a “large number of youths attempting to breach the perimeter fencing”. Authorities also reported incidents involving anti-social behaviour, vandalism, assaults and drug offences.
Four males aged 15, 17, 18, and 27 were arrested Saturday for offences including assault, breach of the peace, and drug misuse. On Sunday, four more males aged 12, 18, 18, and 20 were arrested for similar offences. Reports have been submitted as police enquiries continue. Some individuals trespassed on a nearby railway line near Edinburgh Waverley Station, and police responses caused city-centre bus transport disruptions.
Superintendent Neil Wilson noted that most attendees enjoyed the festival peacefully. However, he condemned the dangerous, violent disorder caused by those attempting to enter without tickets, stating it “will not be tolerated,” and appealed to the public for information or footage.
