Despite having used his distinctive Maushead for over a decade without issue, sparks may be about to fly between Deadmau5 and Disney.
On Tuesday 2 September, Disney filed a 171 page document attempting to block the Canadian EDM powerhouse from registering his logo as a trademark in the US. While the Maushead is reported to have already been trademarked in some 30 countries worldwide, Disney are arguing that the image could cause confusion with their iconic Mickey Mouse logo, which dates back to 1928.
Mau5’s legal team have stated that he “will not be bullied … and is prepared to fight to protect his rights to his property.” Deadmau5 took to twitter to respond in his usual flippant fashion.
Disney thinks you might confuse an established electronic musician / performer with a cartoon mouse. That’s how stupid they think you are.
