Skycabin marked their return with the five-track EP COVET, released October 28, 2026. The California-based alternative electronic and trip-hop project was founded in 2020 by Iranian musicians and longtime collaborators Farbod Khoshtinat and Sepand Bahrami, whose creative partnership predates their move to the United States by nearly a decade. Drawn together by a mutual admiration for Massive Attack, Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails, the duo reconnected in San Francisco and began recording in a skylit cabin near the airport, an environment that inspired the project’s name. Following Khoshtinat’s relocation to Los Angeles, Skycabin evolved into a long-distance collaboration, sustained by creative retreats to remote locations. Since 2020, their singles and visual work have garnered attention from outlets including Beats Per Minute and The Big Takeover, while the video for ‘Nerve‘ has screened at several film festivals. With COVET, Skycabin return to the project’s origins, distilling their instinctive process and darker electronic sensibility after a period of collaboration with other artists.
COVET plunges into the many layers of desire, charting the emotional terrain of longing, displacement and the insatiable need to get away. Each track filters the Skycabin sound through a different lens, moving from breakbeat to indie rock, industrial electronics, dark house and alternative R&B with the duo’s trademark brooding melodies providing the thread that runs through all of them. The title track in particular weaves together ambition, immigration and the concept of home into one tapestry with the very name of the EP being a direct reference to the current of desire that underpins every song. Across the five tracks the narrative moves from the desire to escape to the attraction of things, the pursuit of connection and the drive to grow. Sonically, the gritty electronic textures bring the EP to life and help deliver an industrial feel which meshes majestically on the trip-hop elements that help define Skycabins sound. The singles were mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios. The journey of the duo as Iranian immigrants in California continues to be at the heart of the record. Visually the band have moved away from the slick, surreal aesthetic of their previous work to something much more monochrome, tactile and graphic, drawing on printed material, archive imagery and the visual language of the 1990s.
Farbod Khoshtinat shared: “‘COVET’ is probably the most personal song on the record because it brings together ambition, immigration and the idea of home. There’s a contradiction between saying ‘I’ve got no desires’ and then spending the rest of the song talking about growth, success, distance and wanting to go back home. That contradiction feels very true to us because you can convince yourself that you’re completely driven and in control, while your history and the place you came from are constantly moving underneath everything. It felt like the right final song because its idea of desire is much bigger than romance.“
