Grimes has announced her new album, Psyopera, and released its lead single, ‘Accelerando’. Marking her first full-length album in six years since 2020’s Miss Anthropocene, the project explores AI, religion, technology, and cultural shifts observed during her time away from music.

Accompanying the announcement, the ‘Eve Is Online’ trailer previews the album’s dystopian world with psychedelic visuals, alien figures, and intergalactic warfare. Reimagining the Gospel of John through artificial intelligence, its narration details humanity constructing a new deity, stating, “on the first day, God created the large language model”.

Beyond AI, the album addresses war, relationships, internet culture, and religion. The single ‘Accelerando,’ credited to Grimes and VADAKIN, blends eccentric lyrics, American cultural references, and technological themes to showcase the record’s unconventional style.

Psyopera is also Grimes’ debut release on her independent label, Nazgul Recording LLC, following her departure from Columbia Records. While its tracklist and release date are unannounced, previously revealed songs include ‘The Light Ages’ and ‘Eve Is Online’.
