Founded by longtime friends, DJs, and producers Marco Losso and Romano Zanni, Segment Music is an Italian independent record label built around a simple idea: talented artists deserve a platform where their music can be heard, developed, and presented at the highest possible standard.
With more than 20 years of experience within the electronic music scene, the founders created Segment Music after encountering countless producers with strong ideas and unique identities who struggled to find the right home for their music. Rather than chasing trends or quick results, the label has chosen to grow organically, investing in its artists, releases, visual identity, professional mixing and mastering, and promotional campaigns.
While Melodic House and Techno sit at the heart of the label’s identity, Segment Music refuses to be defined by genre alone. Emotion, atmosphere and storytelling are the qualities that connect its catalogue, with releases spanning Melodic Techno, Progressive House, Indie Dance, Deep Tech and other forms of forward-thinking electronic music.
With a catalogue distributed across more than 80 digital stores and a release schedule planned months in advance, Segment Music continues to build its platform with a long-term vision: becoming a respected reference point for melodic electronic music while creating genuine opportunities for emerging artists.
We caught up with the team behind Segment Music to discuss the label’s origins, its approach to artist development, navigating an increasingly competitive industry, the role of AI, and what lies ahead.
Please introduce your label and share the story behind how it started.
Segment Music was born from a shared vision between two longtime friends, Romano and Marco, both DJs and producers who have been deeply involved in the psytrance scene for over 20 years.
After years of experience as artists, we wanted to create a platform that would support the next generation of talent.
Throughout our journey, we’ve discovered countless producers with incredible ideas and unique musical identities who often struggle to find the right label to release their music. Segment Music was created to bridge that gap – offering a home for talented artists and helping them bring their vision to a wider audience with the professional support they deserve.
What inspired the name and identity of the label?
The name of the label came about almost by chance, during a conversation about which segment of the electronic music scene we wanted to explore and represent.
From the very beginning, Segment Music was built around a clear vision: to give a platform to artists who often struggle to find one in today’s industry.
We like to think of ourselves as a guide for producers who have talent and great ideas, but may not yet have all the tools or experience needed to fully express their potential.
That’s why, in addition to releasing music, we provide professional mixing and mastering services, as well as high-end artwork and video production, ensuring that every release is presented at the highest possible standard.
How would you describe the label’s sound? Which genres and subgenres does the label primarily focus on or represent?
At its core, Segment Music is a melodic electronic music label. While our main focus is Melodic House & Techno, we don’t like to be limited by genre labels alone. What truly defines our sound is emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling.
We’re drawn to music that combines powerful grooves with memorable melodies, cinematic textures, and strong emotional depth. Whether a track leans towards melodic techno, progressive house, indie dance, or even more driving techno influences, it has to create a journey and evoke a genuine feeling.
For us, Segment Music isn’t just about a genre – it’s about creating timeless electronic music that connects with both DJs and listeners, whether they’re experiencing it in a club, at a festival, or through their headphones.
What do you look for when signing or working with artists?
When we decide to work with an artist, the music is always the starting point – but it’s never the only factor.
Rather than chasing trends, we look for artists with a distinctive identity and a clear artistic vision. We want to hear authenticity, emotion, and personality in every production. A great track can catch our attention, but it’s the artist behind it that makes us want to build a long-term relationship.
We also value professionalism, passion, and open communication. We believe that the best releases come from genuine collaboration, where ideas can be shared freely and everyone is working toward the same goal: creating the best possible record.
Ultimately, we’re looking for artists who aren’t afraid to express themselves through their music. We don’t want copies of what’s already successful – we want producers with their own voice, their own story, and the ambition to keep growing alongside the label.
Can you mention some of the artists currently on your roster?
Our current roster includes Daniele Marranconi, Fape, Mark M, Gelaude, Julian Fosk, RSKN, Noda (CA), Blue Ninja, Dream Donor, Under Concept, Kathedral, Zyan and Audio Vision.
How has the music industry, particularly with the rise of AI, changed since the label first launched?
The music industry has changed dramatically over the past few years, and artificial intelligence is undoubtedly one of the biggest transformations we’ve seen. We see AI as a tool, and like any tool, its value depends on how it’s used.
We’re very supportive of AI when it comes to the visual and creative side of our work. We use it extensively to create artwork, promotional videos, and visual content, because it allows us to experiment with new ideas, speed up creative workflows, and enhance the presentation of our releases.
When it comes to music production, however, our perspective is different. While AI-generated music can be technically impressive, we often feel that it lacks the human element that makes a track truly memorable. We love discovering producers who pour their hearts, experience, and emotions into their music. Those personal choices, imperfections, and creative instincts are what give a record its identity and soul.
We’re not against technological progress – in fact, we embrace it. We simply believe that AI should enhance human creativity rather than replace it. For us, genuine emotion will always be the most important ingredient in any piece of music.
What challenges have you faced as an independent label, and how have you overcome them?
Being an independent label means facing challenges that go far beyond simply releasing music. Today’s market is incredibly competitive, with thousands of new tracks being released every week, making it increasingly difficult to give artists the visibility they deserve.
One of our biggest challenges was building the label’s credibility. When Segment Music first launched, nobody knew who we were, so we had to earn the trust of both artists and listeners by consistently delivering quality with every release.
Rather than chasing quick results, we’ve always chosen to grow organically by investing in great music, professional mixing and mastering, strong visual identity, and effective promotion.
Running an independent label also means wearing many different hats. On any given day, we’re acting as A&R, marketers, designers, social media managers, promoters, and artist managers. It’s a demanding job, but it’s also one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do.
Ultimately, we believe the best way to overcome these challenges is to stay true to our vision. We don’t chase trends or release music simply to increase our catalogue. Instead, we focus on building long-term relationships with our artists, maintaining high-quality standards, and growing the label step by step.
Are there any upcoming releases, collaborations, or projects that fans should look out for?
We release new music every week, and we genuinely believe that every single release deserves to be discovered.
Our catalogue is built around quality, with the goal of delivering music that can find its place in both DJs’ sets and the playlists of electronic music lovers.
At the moment, our release schedule is already planned six to seven months in advance. This allows us to dedicate the time and attention each project deserves, giving every release a proper promotional campaign while also leaving room for any adjustments or feedback our artists may need along the way.
We prefer not to rush the process. Instead, we believe that every artist deserves the right level of support, from the moment a track is signed until its release day.
What’s the long-term vision and goal for the label moving forward?
Our long-term vision is to establish Segment Music as a respected reference point for melodic electronic music – recognized not only for the quality of its releases, but also for the way it supports and develops artists.
We want to continue growing organically without ever compromising our values. For us, success isn’t measured by the number of releases we put out, but by the impact they have, the relationships we build with our artists, and the trust we earn from DJs and listeners around the world.
Looking ahead, we’d love to expand our roster internationally, collaborate with even more talented producers, and continue investing in every aspect of the label – from music and visual identity to promotion and artist development.
We also hope to create more opportunities for emerging talent, giving producers with genuine passion a platform where they can grow and express their creativity.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: when people see the Segment Music logo, we want them to immediately associate it with quality, authenticity, and music that leaves a lasting emotional impact.
Because for us, “Techno Is More Than a Beat.”
