Prince Kaybee Reimagines Karmacoda for the Afro House Dancefloor with his ‘Time’ Remix

Legendary platinum-selling South African Afro House DJ, producer, and television personality Prince Kaybee has launched 2026 with a remix of Karmacoda’s ‘Time’, released on 13 February via Sola Musa Music, infusing the San Francisco alt-R&B duo’s reflective original with his signature Afro-house energy. Rising from early DJ competition wins in 2015, Prince Kaybee has since earned multiple South African Music Awards, a Metro FM Music Award, repeated DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards honours, and international acclaim including a Soundcity MVP Awards Festival win for ‘Gugulethu’, recognition from AFRIMMA, and a TIME Magazine Top 10 Songs of 2020 placement for ‘Uwrongo’. With platinum hits like ‘Club Controller’ and ‘Banomoya’, and collaborations with Lady Zamar, Busiswa, Shimza, Black Motion, and Ami Faku, he remains a defining force in South African dance music. Karmacoda, acclaimed by Electronic Groove, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland, Earmilk, NPR Music, and RTÉ 2XM, originally released ‘Time’ on their 2022 LP Lessons In Time, with the track,  featuring Jessica Ford, Brett Crockett, and Eric Matsuno, exploring themes of regret and introspection through layered vocals, piano, and hypnotic rhythm, now reworked for the dancefloor.

Reimagined through a sleek Afro-house lens, Prince Kaybee’s remix of Karmacoda’sTime’ transforms quiet introspection into late-night propulsion. The original’s emotive core, which is subtle, autotuned vocals layered over piano and restrained percussion, remains intact, but is now elevated by warm low-end pressure, rolling rhythms, and a hypnotic sense of forward motion. It’s a refined yet club-ready reinterpretation that balances emotional depth with dancefloor momentum, bridging soulful storytelling and modern Afro-electronic energy with effortless control.

Prince Kaybee shared: “When I make music I see color, so the vocals on the original remind me of blue and I usually associate blue with a mild cold or a subtle fresh breeze. So before I did the remix I needed to find its color that’s how it started.”
