Paint us a picture: what sparked your passion for the arts in the first place? Was there a single moment or experience that solidified your decision to pursue this path?
My mama making me get up and sing lol. That pretty much sums it up right there. Along with my dad having me in a singing group when I was 5/6 years old and I just stuck with it. I started producing at the age of 15 and here I am today still doing what I was forced to do and have grown to love 🙂

When you create, what leads the way – a feeling, a story, or the sound itself?
All, I don’t have a creative way. I can start with anything, I just have to be inspired. There’s no one way, I leave all creative lanes open and that’s how I end up with what I have.

What’s in your toolkit? Share the gear, gadgets, or software you can’t create without.
Logic Pro, MPC1000, Arcade Output, Waves plug-ins just to name a few.

What’s your go-to ritual or trick for getting into the creative zone?
I live there! I don’t ever come out. A great workflow is key. I can create anywhere. I want to be forever in the zone. That’s just what I do.

How did you ultimately end up defining your sound?
My sound is essentially my voice because the production is always changing. People only know it’s me Canton Jones by hearing my voice.

How has your creative process or perspective shifted since you started your journey?
I’m a spiritual person, so my spirituality has developed. I’ve evolved in that belief system and that reflects in my newer songs. I want to continue to show how I evolve and change as God continues to polish me.

Walk us through a recording session: what’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in the studio?
One of my most memorable moments is me recording in the airport arrival zone. That song came out as if we were in the studio. A recording session for me is no rules.

Are there any unexpected or dream collaborations hidden in your work?
I’m willing to work and will work with almost anybody. My diverse creativity draws from all genres. I love to create and God has given me a gift to be diverse.

Any side projects you’re working on?
I’m working on a book that talks about family love and how God intended for us to love each other.

Who’s an emerging artist you think deserves more recognition right now?
Ramona Estell

What’s the strangest or most surprising song currently on your playlist?
‘Jesus And Money’

Which song, album or playlist do you never get sick of no matter how many times you listen to it?
Music from D’Angelo, Dr. Dre, Canton Spirituals, Commission, Ramona Estell, & SOG Minion.

Are there any unexpected hobbies or projects you’re exploring outside of your main work?
I’m putting my very own tour together. Then there is coaching basketball with my 4 boys.

If your life and career were an album, what would its title be, and what’s the hidden track only your fans would know?
It is, it literally is. Every album title is based off a current season of my life. Letters To Myself summarizes my whole career, reminding me of where I was, what I was doing, and how far I’ve come.

Give us a glimpse into the future – what surprises or milestones are coming up for you this year?
I’m doing my first headlining tour called The King Business Tour alongside releasing a book about spiritual mentorship encompassed in one hundred questions.

Famous last words?
I’ve been fortunate to release quite a bit of music that I’m really proud of. And the exciting part is, there’s so much more on the way.
