Almost exactly a year after announcing their disbanding, French electro-house pioneers Daft Punk returned to social media to announce a special 25th anniversary edition re-release of their 1997 debut, Homework. Yesterday, fans were sent into a frenzy after Daft Punk’s logo, taken from Homework, popped up on Instagram and Twitter. The accounts were shortly verified by the respective social media platforms. The band also launched a Twitch channel, and without prior announcement proceeded to stream a remastered version of a live performance that took place in Los Angeles in 1997. The rare performance, filmed at LA’s The Mayan nightclub, featured the band without their signature helmets. It appears that there are no plans to repeat the stream, and any evidence of its existence has been erased from their Twitch channels. The stream was viewed by 150,000 users.
2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Homework, and many believed that Daft Punk were gearing up to release a special anniversary edition of the album after their mysterious reappearance. A link to the release was dropped after the stream ended. The 25th anniversary edition of Homework is available on vinyl, and features the original album as well as a separate disc containing nine previously unreleased tracks as well as remixes. Order it here.
