This Friday, electronic duo Darkstar will be at Oval Space to showcase their album ‘Foam Island’ alongside Richard Dawson, Sleaford Mods (DJ Set) and Afrikaan Boy. The band are also taking part in the Barbican’s Panic!: What Happened to Social Mobility in the Arts? series which included a talk with Stuart Maconie (6Music DJ), Jude Rogers (Guardian and music critic) and various others on Pop Culture and Privilege last week. Foam Island was released in the Autumn and includes themes explored in the Panic! series. The album takes a snapshot of the social and political climate in Northern England and is interlaced with the commentary of Huddersfield residents speaking about their society.
The band have become a bit of a tour de force on the electronic music scene, and their new album features their signature sounds; hard digital rhythms, live percussion and colourful synths.
Tickets are available here with all proceeds going to charity.
You can also hear James from the band talking about social mobility in the arts on Soundcloud here
