5 Minutes With Das Mörtal: Discussing PARASITE, GHOST & The Road To DECVY I

Dark synthwave producer Das Mörtal recently unveiled his latest double single, ‘PARASITE & GHOST’, offering a compelling preview of his forthcoming album, DECVY I, scheduled for release on 29 October 2026 via Lisbon Lux Records. Exploring themes of physical and mental decay while traversing darkwave, witch house, techno, and beyond, the project promises to be one of Das Mörtal’s most ambitious releases to date.

In this edition of 5 Minutes With, we caught up with Das Mörtal to discuss the inspiration behind ‘PARASITE’, the creative vision driving DECVY I, and what fans can expect from the months ahead.

What was the first idea that sparked ‘PARASITE’?

It comes from a long stretch of dealing with illness and getting frustrated about it not getting better.

PARASITE and GHOST explore very different sonic worlds. What made them the perfect pairing for a double single?

I just wanted to show the spectrum of music people should expect from the next album. It’s going to be a bit of darkwave, witch house, techno and more.

If you had to describe DECVY I in three words, what would they be?

Decay, One, Trilogy.

Was there a particular track on DECVY I that challenged you the most?

The opening track has more of a punk energy to it. I had this idea of making a trance track and then morphing it into something more aggressive that could be described as a punk version of a eurodance tune. I think the final result is really close to my original vision and works great as an introduction to the album.

What emotions or themes connect the music across the album?

It’s about the decay of my body and mind and dealing with the pain and frustration it causes.

Which track from DECVY I are you most excited for fans to hear?

All of them, since I think they’re all so different from each other but still feel like they are from the same universe.

If PARASITE was the opening scene of a film, what would the audience see?

Someone being chased if it was more of a dark-themed movie, and probably a party scene if it was lighter, like a teen comedy.

Break down the news for us: what can we expect from Das Mörtal for the rest of 2026?

Probably another single before the release of the full album and hopefully a few shows here and there while I’m working on the follow-ups.
