Distraught Sinead O’Connor posts suicide note on Facebook

The controversial Irish singer, Sinead O’Connor, is reportedly receiving medical treatment after posting a very distressed message on Facebook on Sunday stating she had taken an overdose.  The message was shared by thousands of people, the Gardai were alerted and she was later found alive in a hotel room in Ireland, the details of which she did not give out, and taken to safety.   Sinead posted a long, emotional message on the social media site saying, “This week has broken me.  There is only so much any woman can be expected to bear.  Apparently I’m scum and deserve to be abandoned and treated like shit just when I’ve had my womb and ovaries chopped out and my child is frighteningly sick.”

The mother of four has had a rough year so far; she cancelled all of her shows in July to care for her son, Shane, who was diagnosed with a serious illness and herself undergoing a hysterectomy in August following years of gynaecological problems.  It’s not the first time Sinead has taken to social media to express how she feels, often using the internet to express her strong opinions on religion, sexuality and other personalities in the music business, and sometimes sending out similar cries for help.  The 48 year old songstress tried to commit suicide on her birthday 15 years ago and was diagnosed in 2003 with bipolar disorder.

Today Time to Change launched a new ‪#‎nojudgement campaign tackling the mental health stigma that young people face every day.  Time to Change is a Mental Health charity which aims to eradicate the stigma attached to mental health problems. Find out what you can do:

Everyone here at The Playground sends Sinead the very best of well wishes.
